July Show and Tell 2023

On July ll, 2023, our guild had a party/picnic celebrating 25 years of our quilt guild.  Invitations went out to any and all, past and present members to come celebrate with us.  It is my understanding, I may be wrong, that there were 20 original members of the guild.  These first 4 pictures are of the  original members who were there with us that night, holding up the gift they were given by the current president.

Marian Eason, always very active in the guild, past president, secretary, historian, chairman of the yearly museum challenge and numerous times a committee member for our guild quilt show, usually held every other year in the spring.  You could count on her carefully crafted quilt winning first place in the annual Museum show.

Lou Gostlin, a member of the original guild, she has always been an active participant, past president and vice president, program director, member of many committees, especially the guild show held every other year.

Peggy Harty, past President and Vice President, active participant on many committees also.  She has always had quilts to show and tell, led numerous classes on quilt patterns and techniques, always involved in helping during meetings, and extra Saturday sewing events.  She is currently acting as secretary and Historian.

Tommye Paddock, with Lou, has always been an active guild member, (when she wasn't traveling).  She acted as Vice President and President, has also served on numerous committees, and always available to teach classes on quilt techniques.  It seemed, her quilts usually won the first place award at our quilt shows, Always beautiful quilts.

This year our Museum Challenge show had the theme "Flower Power".  These next pictures are of the winners of that challenge.  Mary is showing her award winner, 3rd place for this beautiful and unique quilt.

Marian is holding up the Ribbon for her win as second place in the museum challenge.  You can see her entry in the blog section showcasing the show entries.

Audrey is showing her ribbon for winning first place in the Museum Challenge ,  Congratulations Audrey.  You can see her winning quilt in the previous Blog.  The quilt is beautiful with tons of flowers  emphasizing the flower theme.

This month's Show and Tell begins with this charmer by Glenda.  It is a table runner in Red, White and Blue - all hexies.  Hexies are fun to do, and kinda complicated.  But they make a statement, and unusual quilt to look at.  Thanks Glenda.

Candi showed us an unusual wall hanging with appliqued "sayings" or words of wisdom.  For example, "Smile, it gives you something to do with your face".  Okay?  I didn't get a note on who this wall quilt is for, maybe someone she knows who need words of wisdom to live by.  But it's fun, and an inspiration.

This quilt top from Candi is either just very old, or an antique  from a relative.  She called it "Aunt Bonnie's old quilt", with appliqued flowers in the squares on point.  It's such an inspiration to see quilts like this that have survived in such good shape.  Thanks, Candi.

From Candi, a pieced bag, Interesting with an assortment of contrasting colors.

Three quilts from Shauna.  The first one is "Super Flower Power" that was made for the museum challenge.  It is a Dresden Plate pattern, enlarged.  Notice the small green stem and leaf on the bottom.

This quilt from Shauna, I showed it before, but this time it is quilted.  It begins with my favorite use of nine patch in the Irish Chain pattern.  The block separating the 9 patch is a "Snowball" block instead of the usual plain square.

This quilt was meant to use up lots of 2 1/2" squares, I always have a box full of these.  The squares are 25 patch with a white sashing.  Lots of sewing and more time consuming than I thought it would be.  The quilting is just straight line up and down and sideways so that was time consuming too. Lots of thread.
