February Happenings

Pins and Things Retreat Feb. 6-9 2025

Fun times doing our many HST’S, SFG, PPP, PHD’S, PIGS, WISP, even a little SEX at our local quilt store, un-sewing, hand sewing, embroidery, meals and conversation.
Thanks to Mary Wakeley and Crystal for making this happen!
And thanks to Audrey, the photographer!

* SFG = Stupid Flying Geese!  :)  Peggy's Acronym

February Show and Tell

For our service project we are making "neck aprons" for the residents at the Canyonlands Care Center.  Marian made this one from her towels too pretty to use.  We all admired the quilted top.

Crystal made several of these Neck Aprons at our retreat.  We admired the use of gray towels... Won't show stains as much!

Aaron showing the Cross-stitch she did while she was with her dad.
It was passed around and all were impressed!

Kim made this QAYG (quilt as you go)
quilt at the retreat.  It is reversible and note
the yellow rick-rack.  Needs to be bound
and it is ready to go!

Audrey wins the award for being most productive
at the retreat.  Her rainbow flag with a group of diverse
people in the corner... and ants marching along in the colored
portions.  Fabric on sale at JoAnn's for $2.00 a yard!
Well done!

Audrey makes these slings for newborns.  She made a few at the retreat, and demonstrated how they work.

A handy dandy trash bag for the car... vinyl type fabric.

Microwave bowls cozies for her nephew...

..a UFO baby blanket...

... A shirt for the best dressed bug man!

... several little rugs from her big ball of cording...

Cathy shared some minky that she used to make a cuddly blanket for an older gentleman...(on the table in the foreground.) We had to imagine it, since it had already been gifted.  She also showed the lovely pin that Tim Graham made from the bark of ocotillo featured on her lovely hand- knit scarf.

At the retreat, Marian made 50 of these blue jean squares in a square for a raggy quilt to be used in her camper.

Peggy showed the rug she made from Mary's class during the January Retreat.  She actually finished a project before it became a UFO... Made from a jelly roll she purchased because she loved it not knowing what she would do with it.

This is Peggy's WIP which is also a UFO... She made 13 blocks at the retreat and has 12 more of a different design to go.  She explained that after letting a project sit for a few years it is a real mystery figuring out what is what!  She had to make a few new sets of flying geese to create better contrast... hence, she complained about making stupid flying geese.  The great surprise is that while making the snowballed corners for the flying geese she added the extra line of stitching for the bonus HST... not knowing if she would ever use them.  Guess what, they are used in the 2nd square.  SCORE!
